ESO: Best Classes For Subclassing For You

With a double XP event on the way May 29th in ESO and Golden Pursuit pushing us to max skill lines, here's a quick guide to which classes you should consider leveling for subclass synergy in Update 46. This is NOT a final meta list — PTS is still evolving — but here's how the core classes stack up for hybrid builds and cross-class power potential:

    Sorcerer

Best For: Pet builds, teleport mobility, solid shields, spammables like Crystal Frags.
Why Level It: Great for players who want consistent single-target PvE damage and mobility.
Caveat: Executes may be nerfed; subclassing might be more needed than optional.

    Dragonknight

Best For: Fire damage, tanking, DoT-heavy builds.
Why Level It: Excellent ultimates and passives. Strong synergy with flame-based sets.
PvP Viable: Yes, but corrosive meta might be adjusted.

    Nightblade

Best For: Stealth, crit burst, Spectral Bow, gank potential.
Why Level It: Nightblade mains are likely to become subclass monsters.
Takeaway: More value in subclassing from Nightblade than subclassing into it.

    Templar

Best For: Versatility — healing, solo play, PvE, PvP.
Why Level It: Strong passives, buffs, and easy-to-use spammables.
Note: Can’t double-subclass — if you want multiple Templar lines, start with a Templar.

    Warden

Best For: Brittle debuff, healing, toughness, frost damage, pet buffs.
Why Level It: Utility powerhouse. Minor Toughness + Brittle are highly valuable.
Sleeper Pick: Underrated in the community but a top-tier subclassing option.

    Necromancer

Best For: Minions (Grave Lord), tanking (Bone Tyrant), healing (Living Death).
Why Level It: Extremely modular; you can extract a skill line for almost any role.
Meta Impact: High — expect subclassed necro skills in all types of builds.

    Arcanist

Best For: Raw damage (Herald), tanking (Soldier), healing (Runeforms).
Why Level It: Its skill lines are too good NOT to be subclassed.
Downside: The base Arcanist may fall behind in versatility, but subclassing its skills elsewhere is the real play.

With subclassing coming in Update 46, build diversity is exploding — and prepping the right classes early during the XP event gives you a huge edge. Want stealth? Nightblade. Want support utility? Warden or Templar. Want minion mayhem? Necromancer. Want to break the game? Subclass a Sorc's teleport with a Nightblade's stealth and call it a day.
